Mike Lipe był legendarnym kalifornijskim lutnikiem, który zdobył swoją reputację w ciągu ponad 40 lat kariery pracując dla Yamaha (stworzył model Pacifica), założył amerykański Ibanez Custom Shop, a także współpracował z Hofner, Fender i innymi markami. Na początku lat 2000 założył swoją markę, pod którą produkował gitary w tradycyjny sposób (bez użycia maszyn CNC), mimo tego najwyższej jakości instrumenty. Jego gitary słynęły ze sprytnych pomysłów konstruktorskich (takich jak mosiężne wstawki w szyjce dla lepszego wybrzmiewania przy konstrukcji bolt-on), precyzji, a przede wszystkim - świetnej muzykalności.
