James Tyler Studio Elite Transparent Jimburst Quilted Maple Top
Studio machine - one guitar to rule it all
As the James Tyler Guitars motto goes: “Either you know, or you don't.” The world is divided into players who make fun of the Tyler headstock and those who love the quality and capabilities of these guitars. We encourage you to take a moment with this guitar and give it a chance to show you what it can do. And its capabilities are essentially limitless. The James Tyler Studio Elite in Transparent Jimburst represents the pinnacle of studio guitar design—a lightweight, hollow-body instrument featuring a stunning figured maple top over a chambered alder body that delivers powerful acoustic resonance and effortless playability. Here, every note unfolds and blossoms with every strum.
The electronics
Built with Tyler’s signature HCS-Stingray 500 (single) and California Bridge humbucker pickups, this guitar offers unprecedented tonal versatility thanks to its sophisticated electronics: a lead/ rhythm circuit with a Demeter midboost preamp, series/parallel switching for each pickup, and a neck+bridge tap button that unlocks three-pickup combinations in every selector position.
The multitude of switches only seems overwhelming at first glance. Each one has its own role and purpose. As standard, there’s a 5-way switch, but with a single button, you can always engage the neck and bridge pickups simultaneously, allowing you to get the sound of three pickups at once. Additionally, each pickup can be engaged in single-coil mode, parallel humbucker mode, and series humbucker mode. Next, there’s the rhythm/lead switch—use it to switch from the configuration selected via the pickups to a humbucker plugged directly into the output (e.g., when you want to stand out on a solo). And for dessert, Tyler’s now-legendary boost (Demeter preamp), which acts as a buffer in the off position (restoring highs and lows), and as you gradually add boost, you thicken the midrange.
This means that, in practice, no sound is impossible, and they’re all easily achievable on stage or in the studio. If you want one guitar for everything, you’ve just found it.
The Standard '64 (thin) quarter-sawn maple neck with wide/tall frets and a body with single-coil pickups mounted directly to the top provide classic comfort, while black hardware against a pink-to-blue Jimburst gradient finish creates a striking visual statement as unforgettable as its sound —making it a complete solution: a single guitar for players demanding studio-quality sound, stage reliability, and dazzling aesthetics.
